I guess it doesn't matter now, but he was a demon. There are many different types of Demon's, some are almost as holy as they were before they were fallen.
Just like there are vampire with 4 and 5 humanity, there are demons that are pretty damn holy, but still not in the good graces of god kinda thing. If some of you thought he was an angel that's good. I left some pretty obvious clues, and some subtle ones, it's good to see how it played out.
